Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2023 Toyota Highlander is sold in six trims: L, LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, and Platinum. There's also a Bronze Edition available with a unique bronze-colored exterior guaranteed to turn heads on the highway. You get heated outside mirrors, LED headlights, and 18-inch alloy wheels on the L. The LE adds a height-adjustable power liftgate and fog lights. Moving up to the XLE gets you a sunroof and roof rails.
Unique sporty styling cues, dual exhaust tips, a chrome exterior trim, and 20-inch wheels highlight the XSE. The Limited has a hands-free power liftgate and upgraded fog lights, while the Platinum features automatic wipers, a panoramic sunroof, and 20-inch alloy wheels.
Engine (Power)
You'll find one engine under the hood of each trim level of the 2023 Toyota Highlander. You get a turbocharged 2.4-liter engine that delivers 265 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque. This engine is matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission for a smooth driving experience. Drivers love the EPA-estimated 29 mpg on the highway for more miles between fill-ups.
Performance
Toyota has added many performance-enhancing features to the 2023 Highlander to improve the drive. Front-wheel drive is standard, but you can trade that for an available all-wheel-drive system on all six trims for better performance over various conditions. Drive mode select lets you customize your drive with Normal, Eco, Sport, and Snow modes. If you opt for the all-wheel drive, you also get Mud/Sand and Rock/Dirt modes. The Bronze Edition features Normal, Eco, Sport, EV, and Trail modes.
Interior
When you open the door to the 2023 Toyota Highlander, you'll discover a comfortable, convenient oasis inside. The L features tri-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver's seat, keyless entry with push-button start, a Wi-Fi hotspot, four USB-C and one USB-A ports, a 7-inch digital instrument panel display, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Amazon Alexa plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You get a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob on the LE. The XLE adds a wireless charging pad, simulated leather upholstery, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, second-row sunshades, second-row captain's chairs, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
Moving up to the XSE gives you interior ambient lighting and unique sporty styling cues. Finally, the Limited tops everything off with leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a household-style outlet, a heated steering wheel, an intercom system, driver's seat memory settings, an 11-speaker premium JBL sound system, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen.
Safety Features
Toyota adds Safety Sense 2.5+ to the 2023 Highlander for safety and driver-assistance features. You get an advanced airbag system, frontal collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, a lane-keeping system, automatic high beams, and a traffic sign reader on all six trims. The LE adds a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, while the Limited gets you front and rear parking sensors. You also get a head-up display and digital rearview mirror on the Platinum.
